If the first plan doesn't work, be flexible!

The art teacher in our building and I have been trying to plan a collaborative lesson that combines art and technology. We had reserved the library for her classes to come in tomorrow and the next day; but today discovered some glitches in our original plans. So what do you do when the photography software has not been installed (plan A), the search terms for images to complete the project might possibly bring up items that are not school appropriate (plan B) and you have no common planning time?
Lunch!

Thankfully, the Unified Arts team has a common lunch time so the art teacher and I could sit down and brainstorm a plan D. Over our lunch bags, we grabbed a couple of iPads and together came up with an activity that uses the photo capabilites of the iPad along with the ColorSplash app to complement her lessons on Keith Haring. As a bonus - the color printer to publish the students' finished projects for display and USB adapters that will allow students to save their completed projects to a jump drive. We'll have to delay our lesson another week or so to allow her to complete the unit she's currently teaching, but it will allow us to have a lesson that will integrate technology in a meaningful manner.

Technology is a wonderful, but not always dependable. Today's lesson: be prepared, be flexible and be ready (and open) to modify your plans on the fly.
